Where it began

Boundary Oak School

Box of Socks started at Boundary Oak, where Elsie was a pupil. The school took it on as part of its Kindness Counts work and filled the very first box. Boundary Oak is still taking part, and the appeal has now spread to five more schools.

Every school runs its own box, and every pair from every box goes to the same place: Stonepillow.

Bring Box of Socks to your school

Any school, club, office or church can run a Box of Socks. It costs nothing to set up and only needs one person to get it started. If you’re a pupil, that person can be you: just ask your teacher.

  1. Ask your teacher

If you’re a pupil, start by asking your teacher or head of year if your school can have a Box of Socks.

  2. Get a box

Any sturdy cardboard box will do. Decorate it so people notice it.

  3. Put up a poster

Put it somewhere busy, like the entrance, the library or the staff room.

  4. Spread the word

Mention it in assembly, in the newsletter and on the parents’ group chat.

  5. Deliver the socks

When it’s full, get in touch with Stonepillow or your local homeless charity to arrange a handover.
